In case you haven’t noticed, Marley Dias is not done leaving her mark on the world. In addition to collecting and donating over 1000 books featuring Black girls as central characters, heading her own zine, Marley Mag, over at Elle.com, and speaking across the country, she is also working on penning a book of her own.
The upcoming book seeks to teach children and teens about social justice and activism. She’ll publish the guide through Scholastic.
Andrea Davis Pinkey, vice president and executive editor at Scholastic said, “Through her smarts and ingenuity, she’s delivered a jolt of inspiration that’s sent an unstoppable shockwave to kids everywhere who’ve stood up with Marley to shout, ‘Yes!’ to the power of positive action. In this book, Marley will share her dynamic wisdom with readers everywhere. We’re thrilled to welcome her to the Scholastic family.”
The book’s targeted toward children 10 and up. In it, Marley will share how she turned her passion for literature into a crusade that captured the attention of national media, policymakers and young people throughout the world. The book will explore social justice, volunteerism, activism and using social media for good.
In a press release, Marley said, “I am so excited to be doing this book with Scholastic. All my friends can probably only name one publishing house and that is Scholastic; they are everywhere. Scholastic is the perfect partner for spreading my message of diversity, inclusion and social action.”
Marley’s book will hit the shelves in the spring of 2018.
